Well when I was using AVG it and its real-time scanning was conflicting with a game at the time, I think it was Punkbuster/Team Fortress 2. I just figured I'd do away with all that business and just use something much more simple and ClamWin is at simple as it gets and it also auto-updates definitions which is the max I need.

If I didn't play games (And no the WINE based game-loaders don't work well enough) I'd be running Linux. I first ran Linux in 98 at the age of 16 and have been a pro with it ever since. I definitely plan on having 2 systems soon though, Linux desktop and Windows gaming machine.

I use clamwin too as part of the PortableApps suite on a USB stick.

Just a heads up though...even if installed, clamwin doesn't run realtime like other AV solutions. Only scans on demand. So if you need something "active", check AVG or Avast.

the best for me is avg also it catches everything and it doesn't use alot of memory to run like nortons,and mcafee do

ClamWin is available on PortableApps... comes in handy for a USB Repair Stick.

That has got to make it one of the better free AV Scanners out there for sure!

After all the testing though, nothing compares to an OS that people just don't target! Switch to Linux and watch the number of virus' drop like crazy... everyone targets Windows. Its a fact of the internet.

I'm happy with avg free, gave up on paying for virus protection, if you are a savvy surfer you will avoid viruses. Only keep avg on my pc so family/friends don't fuck things up on me.

Seriously, look up ClamWin, check out its comparison on catching viruses vs other scanners. It's up there on the list.
