I'm using it too... It's OK, only you have to manually load module_rewrite on apache every time you install it. Also a nice alternative is WAMPP. And I agree with spaceship9, it's easier then configuring the apache server itself.

I've been using the Lighttpd equivalent of Xampp on my linux laptop, but Xampp works fine on my windows desktop for testing.
Certainly a lot easier then going through the config of an actual apache server, though it does have some limitations.

How many ppl here use xampp? I have been using it for a while no with no problems. Just curious what everyone else thinks of it!
